This was the first mental health website I visited and a link in their site allowed me to connect to free(health care covered) mental health services. Internet Mental Health : “Internet Mental Health is a free encyclopedia of mental health information created by a Canadian psychiatrist, Dr. Phillip Long. The idea of creating Internet Mental Health resulted from a Canada-Japan Mental Health Exchange in 1994 arranged by Mr. Mikio Kuraki. During that exchange, Robert Winram and Dr. Phillip Long visited Japanese psychiatric hospitals and lived for one week with psychiatric patients as guests in their homes.” Mind your Mind: “mindyourmind is a non-profit mental health engagement program that works with youth, emerging adults and the professionals who serve them to develop reliable and relevant resources and communication platforms. These resources are designed using current evidence and research to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and increase access and use of community support, both professional and peer-based. Through the use of active engagement and technology mindyourmind inspires youth to reach out, get help and give help.” Moods Magazine: “is devoted to supplying those suffering from mood disorders with useful information in lay person terms, while also diminishing the stigma attached to mental illness. Anxiety Disorders Association of America: This site offers a comprehensive list of resources, informative articles, and a consumer resource section for those who suffer with anxiety or panic disorders. Suicide Prevention Lifeline: Offers a crisis intervention hotline and online resources. Living Works :A Suicide Intervention Initiative Stomp Out Bullying: Anti-Bullying and Cyberbullying program for Kids and Teens For Suicide Survivors: “This site is devoted to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one by suicide.” Mental Health Foundation UK :“Founded in 1949, the Mental Health Foundation is a leading UK charity that provides information, carries out research, campaigns and works to improve services for anyone affected by mental health problems, whatever their age and wherever they live.” Schizophrenia Society of Canada: "Founded in 1979, the Schizophrenia Society of Canada (SSC) is a national registered charity. We work with 10 provincial societies and their over 100 chapters and branches, to help people suffering from schizophrenia and their families have a better quality of life, while we search for a cure." National Alliance on Mental Illness: "Due in large part to generous individual, corporate, and foundation donations, NAMI is able to build on its success and continue to focus on three cornerstones of activity that offer hope, reform, and health to our American community: Awareness, Education, and Advocacy." Mind: "The leading mental health charity in England and Wales working for a better life for everyone experiencing mental distress. Mind campaigns for the right to lead an active and valued life in the community and is an influential voice on mental health issues. Established in 1946 and drawing on the experience and skills of mental health service users and professionals, Mind has become the largest voluntary sector provider of quality community care." WHO Resource book on mental health, Human rights and legislation Gift From Within: "an international nonprofit organization is dedicated to those who suffer post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), those at risk for PTSD, and those who care for traumatized individuals. We have articles, essays, poetry and art, peer support,, coping and inspirational stories, a Q&A, videos, book reviews, list of retreats for survivors, global list of trauma survivor support groups, meditations, and other educational materials and resources." All Psych Online :"AllPsych Online is one of the largest and most comprehensive psychology websites on the Internet. Inside the site you'll find over over 920 individual, cross referenced, web pages and an estimated 3000 pages of printed material. AllPsych is referenced by over 100 colleges and universities in ten countries." ANAD(Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Eating Disorders): "I will accept myself as I am" Beyond Blue: "beyondblue is a national, independent, not-for-profit organisation working to address issues associated with depression, anxiety and related substance misuse disorders in Australia."
